Materials Science and Engineering

Along with technological progress in material engineering, the industrial world has aggressively been seeking out new materials not only as “intermediate manufacturing” products but also as “final manufacturing” products. With this in mind, the graduate program for Materials Science and Engineering has been organized into three areas based on the use of materials, as described below. We feel that by doing so students will receive a well-rounded education with diverse knowledge ranging from the basics to the latest developments in the field, providing graduates with solid tools to create materials for the future.

1) Electric Industry Material: Through intense study of material synthesis, material structures and organizations, and optic/electromagnetic properties, students gain a deep, almost intuitive, understanding of the many ways in which materials function and can be used in industry. Armed with this knowledge, students are then challenged to find new, creative ways for materials to function, thus taking that first crucial step toward achieving our ultimate goal of creating new functional materials.

2) Advanced Composite Materials: Students closely examine the process of creating and manufacturing functionally new composites; the relation between material properties and their intended function; and the sophisticated fabrication methods for producing these new materials in application to various aerospace and industrial fields.

3) Material Chemistry: Students learn to create new functions for materials by controlling the microstructures of materials using the latest methods in both organic and inorganic chemistry.

In addition to the above areas, students are also offered an opportunity to take Special Lecture and Research courses in an area of interest as well as English for Special Purposes.
