Pennsylvania State University is a historic university which was established in 1855 in Pennsylvania. At present, 73,000 students are enrolled in the ten faculties that spread over 20 campuses. Graduate students majoring in Material Science and Engineering at the graduate school of SIT have especially strong ties with Penn State’s Material Research Lab. Furthermore, SIT graduate students have attended Penn State classes as part of their studies. |

Technical University of Kaiserslautern was established in
1970, and it now has 10,000 students. The university offers
a variety of courses such as physics, science, bionomics,
mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science,
information technology, and construction. It has achieved
good results in collaboration with the SIT graduate school
in the research and development of composite materials for
use in the blades of wind power generation systems. |

The University of Sydney was established in 1850 and is a very traditional school with the longest history of all universities in Australia. It has faculties in the areas of science, health science, and human sociology. One of its former students in the Science Faculty has been awarded a Nobel Prize. The University of Sydney has been involved in the research of composite materials with the SIT graduate school, and has concluded an agreement for exchange students with SIT in 2000. |

SNU was founded as the first national university
in Korea in 1946, with Kyongsong University and the other
eight national, public, and private educational schools incorporated.
SNU comprises 16 colleges and graduate schools, and 6 graduate
professional schools and research institutes, with 20,000
undergraduates and 10,000 postgraduates. Many students come
from China, Japan, and the USA. SNU has enjoyed a high reputation
all over the world. |

SJTU was established based on the Nanyang Public
School founded in 1896. SJTU is one of the oldest universities
in China, being directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education.
SJTU has departments such as science, technology, and management,
as well as humanities, social science, and agriculture. At
the highest educational and academic level in China, SJTU
comprises 45 academic schools such as naval and ocean engineering,
science, humanities, social science, and architecture. |
